Mother’s Day Rally for Moms’ Mental Health – May 10, 2009

To all new moms out there, get ready for Katherine Stone’s Mother’s Day Rally over at Postpartum Progress on Mother’s Day!

She has assembled 24 women–book authors, therapists, mommy bloggers, PPD bloggers– who will each be writing a letter addressed to you, the new mom.  Every hour on the hour for 24 hours, a different letter will be posted to provide you with advice, inspiration and encouragement.   Whether you are currently suffering from a perinatal mood disorder, feeling anxious from being a first-time mom and needing support, or about to have a baby and reading up on what to expect as a new mom, you should expect to receive a wealth of information that will help you.

I am thrilled and honored to be part of this effort to provide new mothers support on a day that is dedicated to celebrating mothers in this country.    If only I had had this kind of information made available to me when I was expecting my daughter!   Katherine Stone will be bringing this virtual community of women dedicated to helping mothers right to you, wherever you may be, with just a few keystrokes…..this is what the country needs more of (in addition to groups within your local communities).   My hope is that, over time, there will be more mother-focused support groups and women’s reproductive mental health services in each of our communities all over the country, so that there will be fewer moms out there suffering at a time that should be happy.
